Introduction
Tena is one of the 22 districts of Arsi zone. There was no reliable information regarding about the derivation of the name of “Tena”.
The main Objective of this paper is to prepare the physical and socio-economic database of Tena district. All years are according to Ethiopian calendar.
This document is compiled from the data collected from the concerned district and zonal sector departments, 1994 census result report and other related documents available in the office. Shortage of time, lack of accurate, adequate and timely data is the main constraints we faced in organizing the document. Even if it has these limitations, it is very useful to undertake a farther study of the physical and socio-economic condition of the district.
The paper has three parts. The first part deals with physical features like location, relief, drainage, soil, vegetation and wild life. The second chapter focused on socio-economic aspects such as human population, economic activities and social infrastructures. The final chapter highlights shortly the existing problems and potentialities in Tena district.
