Shirka district is one of the 22 districts of Arsi zone. There is no reliable information regarding the derivation of its name. The main objective of this paper is to prepare a document which shows the districts physical settings, socio -economic conditions as well as potentialities and problems for development in order to be used by policy formulators, planners, decision making bodies, investors, other government and non government bodies and etc.
This paper is compiled by collecting data mostly from the concerned district and zonal sector departments as well as from the documents available in our office. Lack of accurate, required data and no timely response from respondent bodies are some of the problems we faced during the preparation of the document. Even if this document has these limitations and lack details it may be useful for above-mentioned purposes.
