1. INTRODUCTION
North Shewa zone is one of the 18 zones in the Oromia region and it is the nearest zone to the capital city Finfinne, next to Oromia special zone surrounding Finfinne city. It comprises 20 woreda’s including (four urban administrative up to the end of 2000). Starting from 2001, three (3) urban administrative and three (3) rural woreda’s were separated from this zone. At thus time north shewa zone consists of 13 rural worada’s and 1 urban administrative and this profiles is focus only on fourteen administrative of the zone. The Zone is classified into 267rural kebele’s and 20 urban kebele’s of small administrative divisions, Fitche is the capital town of the zone located at the distance of 115 km from Finfinne/Addis Ababa with an area of 9775.3km2. It is an area where mixed farming is the major livelihood of the people. The expansion of social services, secondary economic activities and modern means of transportation and communication in the zone are similar to other zones of the Region.
In organizing this document, serious problems were faced, particularly in getting reliable and up-to-date data and information regarding the zone. Also a few offices are not willing to give data on time. The document incorporates basic information about the zone. The document gives a general clue about the zone and could be used as a benchmark for further study about the zone.
